DFAC – Coffee & Conversation with Ry McCullough

It’s Back… It’s LIVE!!!
Hanging out, drinking delicious coffee, talking about art… ahhhh, that’s the life! Well, that IS the life at least for an hour or so each month at the Dunedin Fine Art Center’s Coffee and Conversation series. Enjoy coffee (Presented by the Sterling Society of DFAC) and insights as each month’s guests hold forth on their area of expertise. Admission to these relaxed talks is $5 and is FREE to current DFAC members.

The series welcomes artist and educator Ry McCullough on Thursday, December 15th, 2022, at noon. Ry will discuss how his development and explorations into print media were productively interrupted by the revelatory practice of collage. Transgressive operations of cutting, tearing, taping, and gluing traditional prints revealed new connections between diverse approaches in creative practice. Fields of printmaking, creative writing, drawing, sound, and sculpture opened as a map for crafted discovery and surprise encounters. Traditional and experimental processes allow him to investigate how art can express states of being and develop language to explore and probe meaning.

A Fabulous Whisky Tasting  – To Celebrate St Andrew

In celebration of St. Andrew, the patron Saint of Scotland, we are delighted and excited to welcome back Scotsman Bill Mullen for a very special Whisky Tasting Concert! Originally from Dundee (Scotland), Bill grew up listening to many Scottish Artists. After time spent living in Aberdeen and in Europe, Bill and his lovely wife Dorothy moved to Lake Oswego, Oregon, where his friend David Maher offered him a solo gig at Maher’s Irish Pub. Bill has been touring the USA and Canada ever since with his own brand of traditional and contemporary Scottish Music.
Bill is also a renowned expert in Scotch Whisky, having conducted many tastings and presentations on the “Water of Life” around the USA and Canada.

Our St Andrew’s Night will open with pipers and the Margaret Howard Highland Dancers. Then, after the opening toast, Bill will take over for a great singalong-a-whisky tasting!   There will be an opening toast followed by 4 Single Malt Scotch Whisky tastings from around Scotland.  As usual, there will be traditional Scottish food to accompany the Scotch, and for those who would prefer to drink wine or beer or not to partake in alcohol, we offer tickets to suit your tastes.

Yes, there is something for everyone!

Our Whisky Tastings are fun, they are informal, and everyone is welcome. Come and have a great night in the company of friends!

Dunedin Youth Guild’s 53rd Annual Holiday Tour of Homes

On Saturday, December 3, 2022, the Dunedin Youth Guild will host the 53nd Annual Holiday Tour of Homes.   This year’s “Winter Wonderland” theme is our way of welcoming the holiday season.  Our five Dunedin homes, the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce, and the Dunedin Fine Art Center are all included in this year’s tour.  The homes on this year’s tour are a delightful blend of historical and holiday wonders and are sure to put everyone in a festive mood.

Don’t forget to save time for a visit to the Holiday Tea included in the ticket price.  Join us for delicious holiday cookies served with a cup of hot tea or coffee while chatting with friends and browsing our vendors and boutique tables.  The vendor and boutique area is a wonderful place to begin your holiday shopping for unique, one-of-a-kind presents for family and friends.

We have several Giving Tree themes for this year, so while you are on the Tour of Homes, be sure to purchase a few “Chance to Win” tickets for an opportunity to own one of these special works of art.  The Dunedin Youth Guild calls these “giving trees” because all of the proceeds from the sales of chances to win go to projects that benefit the youth of Dunedin.  The Giving Trees are fully decorated by the members of the Dunedin Youth Guild and represent all the special things in Dunedin that we love.  As a special bonus this year, students from the Robotics Team at Dunedin High School have offered to create a very special Giving Tree for our event.  Make sure you stop by the Hale Center during the Tour of Homes to view their Giving Tree, which utilizes technology from a 3-D printer that the Dunedin Youth Guild helped the Robotics Team purchase.

Proceeds from this event benefit the Dunedin Youth Guild’s youth scholarship program and other youth-focused community improvement projects.  Advance tickets are available for $25.00 around the town of Dunedin:  Dunedin Chamber of Commerce, Dunedin Community Center, Hale Center, and Dunedin Fine Art Center.   Tickets are also available for purchase online at our website:  https://dunedinyouthguild.org.  Tickets can also be purchased for $30.00 the day of the event at the Hale Center, 330 Douglas Avenue in Dunedin.  The tours are open from 10 am to 3:30 pm and the Holiday Tea is open from 11 am to 3:00 pm.
