Holiday Expectations vs Reality

This month we will focus on how fragile our emotions are during the holidays. From children being overly excited to those who are grieving and lonely, emotions run high during the holidays. The result may be anger, disappointment, sadness, anxiety, depression, or any other number of emotions. Is Christmas really as joyous as everyone portrays it to be? If so, why do suicide rates, addiction, domestic violence, anger, school detentions, and suspensions climb this time of year? Come and find out how closely linked faith, spirituality, and emotions are especially this time of year.
RSVP by email to Stacy.dennison@houseofmercy-fl.org or by clicking the link above.
This event is free and all are welcome. Coffee and light refreshments will be provided.
Facilitator: Dolores Mortimer is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Registered Play Therapist/Supervisor, National Certified Counselor, and has provided services to children and families for over 25 years. She is the founder and director of the House Of Mercy and Encouragement, a non-profit counseling and education center for adults, children, and families.

Celebrate St Andrew’s Night with Bill Mullen

In celebration of Scotland’s St Andrew’s Day holiday, we honor St. Andrew, the Patron Saint of Scotland. We are welcome Scotsman Bill Mullen back to the Scottish Cultural Center! Originally from Dundee, Bill grew up listening to Andy Stewart, the Corries, the Dubliners, and more. Since 2013, Bill has traveled the USA & Canada offering a mix of Scottish, Irish, English as well as some of his own songs and music.  Bill was one of the Highlights of our Tartan Week 2021, and we are delighted he is returning to Dunedin to help celebrate this Scottish Holiday with us!

The show will open with members of the Isle of Skye Highland Dancers and students from the Progressive Arts Theatre Group, who both rehearse and develop their skills at the Scottish Cultural Center, and will add their own “Scottish flair” to the Concert!

Location: Scottish Cultural Center
917 Louden Avenue, Dunedin

Dunedin Youth Guild’s 52nd Annual Holiday Tour of Homes

This year’s theme is “Let’s Get Together – One Way or Another” and reflects the new way that everyone socially interacts with each other.  Our four Dunedin homes, four RV’s and two PODS (alternative housing), and the Dunedin Fine Art Center are all included in this year’s tour.  The locations on this year’s tour really showcase what our beautiful town is all about … keeping traditions alive while still maintaining a healthy respect for all the changes that have occurred in the past two years.

Don’t forget to save time for a visit to the Holiday Tea included in the ticket price.  Join us for delicious holiday cookies served with a cup of hot tea or coffee while chatting with friends and browsing our vendors and boutique tables.  The vendor and boutique area is a wonderful spot to begin your holiday shopping for unique, one-of-a-kind presents for family and friends.

We have several Giving Tree themes for this year, so while you are on the Tour of Homes, be sure to purchase a few “Chance to Win” tickets for an opportunity to own one of these special works of art.  The Giving Trees are fully decorated by the members of the Dunedin Youth Guild and represent all the special things in Dunedin that we love.  We call these “giving trees” because all of the proceeds from the sales of chances to win go to projects that benefit the youth of Dunedin.

Proceeds from this event benefit the Dunedin Youth Guild’s youth scholarship program and other youth-focused community improvement projects.  Advance tickets are available for $25.00 around the town of Dunedin:  Dunedin Chamber of Commerce, Dunedin Community Center, Hale Center, and Dunedin Fine Art Center.   Tickets are also available for purchase online at our website:  https://dunedinyouthguild.org.  Tickets can also be purchased for $30.00 the day of the event at the Hale Center, 330 Douglas Avenue in Dunedin.  The tours are open from 10 am to 3:30 pm and the Holiday Tea is open from 11 am to 3:00 pm.   Visit our website at www.dunedinyouthguild.org, like us on Facebook (Dunedin Youth Guild), or call us at 727-734-0394 to get up-to-date information.

We look forward to seeing you at this year’s Holiday Tour of Homes!

Dunedin Cares – Bootlegger’s Ball

A special thank you to our Pantry Family!

We are pleased to invite you to attend the 1st Annual Dunedin Cares, Inc. fundraiser on Saturday, January 22. The theme is the Bootleggers Balla Roaring 20’s Gala hosted at The Dunedin Golf Club, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm.

The gala will feature a fun-filled evening, with entertainment, food, drinks, dancing, and auctions. Roaring 20’s attire is encouraged but not required.

We do expect this event to sell out, which is why we wanted to provide our immediate Pantry Family with the link to buy tickets early. They will be available to the general public starting August 1st, so please don’t wait if you would like to join us!

The Covid pandemic took a tremendous toll on our community, and our dramatic increase in demand has not slowed down. Our numbers are up 40% higher than they were at this time last year. This influx has also made clear that we will need to begin looking for a larger building. This gala’s purpose is to raise funds for making that quest a reality.

We would be honored if you would join us or provide an Auction item.  There are three sponsorship levels as well as single ticket reservations available.

We appreciate your consideration in helping continue the mission of Dunedin Cares Food Pantry. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us via phone at 727-410-8495 or by email at admin@dunedincares.org.
