Farewell to Honeymoon Island’s Pete Krulder!

As you may have heard, Pete Krulder, the manager of Honeymoon and Caladesi Island state parks is retiring at the end of this month. The Friends of the Island Parks have scheduled an event that will enable well wishers to say goodbye to Pete.

On Tuesday, September 22, beginning at 6:30 pm at Honeymoon Island State Park, well wishers will line up for a parade loop through the park which will pass by Pete at his “reviewing stand”.  All are welcome, and there is no limit to the number of people in a vehicle.

Beginning at 6:00 pm paraders will be able to enter the park with no fee. Signs, banners and honking horns are welcome.  All we ask is that you rsvp to president@islandparks.org before you come out.

The Sheriff’s Christmas Sharing Project

Ride and Run with the Stars – The Sheriff’s Christmas Sharing Project
Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office

For 26 years, Ride & Run With The Stars has brought the community together to participate in athletic competition, a silent auction, and a special delivery of Mr. and Mrs. Claus via helicopter. We look forward to this holiday fundraiser every year, which is why the decision to cancel this year’s event was a difficult one. However, we must consider the health and safety of our community during these trying times.

Despite not having an in-person event, I hope you will continue to support Ride & Run With The Stars’ charity—the Sheriff’s Christmas Sharing Project. Last year, we raised enough money to provide food, clothing, books, and toys to more than 384 underprivileged families and 862 deserving children whom sheriff’s office members identified through their daily interaction in the community as homeless, economically stressed, victimized, or abused. Here are a few ways you can support the Sheriff’s Christmas Sharing Project by December 1st:

  • Mail your check made payable to Ride & Run With The Stars to P.O. Box 2500, Largo, FL 33779 Attn: Sergeant Elizabeth Brady
  • Make an electronic payment at https://www.rideandrunwiththestars.com/
  • Adopt a family by contacting Sandra Garcia-Olivares, Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Victim Advocate, at sgarcia-olivares@pcsonet.com or 727-582-6465

No matter the size, every contribution is valuable and a treasured holiday gift to the less fortunate families in our community, especially after this challenging year.

DYG’s Annual Holiday Tour of Homes update: We’ve been getting lots of questions – and yes, there will be a tour. We will adhere to Florida guidelines for distancing so our 51st annual tour will be a virtual one and it will be fantastic. Just a few things to look forward to coming up this December – professionally filmed videos of wonderful homes, online auctions, opportunities to shop with vendors, and even some surprise guests.

Thanks to our community of sponsors and participants – you’ve supported us for over 50 years and we know that we can count on you again as we work to contribute to the youth and children of Dunedin.
