Monday Night is Coffee with the Counselor! – The Journey of Grief

“Tears are the silent language grief” — Voltaire.

In our lives, we will grieve many things: the loss of a beloved family member or friend, a dear pet, the ending of a relationship, and the loss of health or abilities, to name a few. These losses and the grief that comes are natural but a dreaded part of our life.

Please join us as we discuss how grief affects the mind, body, and spirit. We will also look at coping strategies that may help with the healing journey.

Speakers: Winnie Holland, LMHC, and Susan O’Neil, LMHC. Both counselors work at House of Mercy and Encouragement.

Coffee with the Counselor: Am I Angry or Anxious?

“What is the connection between anxiety and anger? Why am I so irritable? I don’t want to be so angry, but I can’t help myself. What can I do to have better control of my emotions while facing stressful situations?”

We will explore the answers to these questions and many others that deal with emotional regulation and our ability to express ourselves appropriately when we feel like our emotions are getting the best of us.

Come, relax, and enjoy refreshments and a stress-free night. We will also be talking about our upcoming mental health conference to be held at OLL in September, entitled: Help, Hope and Healing: Mental Health Conference 2022.”

Facilitators: Dolores Mortimer, LMHC, RPT/S, NCC, and Winnie Holland, LMHC

Coffee with the Counselor – When Did we Get So Angry?

When Did We Get So Angry? Have you ever been angry with friends, relatives, neighbors, teachers, health care workers, or even God? When is anger justified? How do we handle an angry person? How do we handle our own anger and let go of deep wounds? How can we help our children, friends, or loved ones when they are feeling angry or deeply hurt? We will explore one of our strongest emotions. Many ideas will be generated and explored.

Come, relax, enjoy a cup of coffee, and fellowship while learning how to manage rejection, frustration, hurt, and anger.

This event is free and all are welcome. Please RSVP in advance. Coffee and light refreshments will be provided.

Please note: Masks will be required at this event.

Facilitator: Dolores Mortimer is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Registered Play Therapist/Supervisor, National Certified Counselor, and has provided services to children and families for over 25 years. She is the founder and director of the House Of Mercy and Encouragement, a non-profit counseling and education center for adults, children, and families.

Holiday Expectations vs Reality

This month we will focus on how fragile our emotions are during the holidays. From children being overly excited to those who are grieving and lonely, emotions run high during the holidays. The result may be anger, disappointment, sadness, anxiety, depression, or any other number of emotions. Is Christmas really as joyous as everyone portrays it to be? If so, why do suicide rates, addiction, domestic violence, anger, school detentions, and suspensions climb this time of year? Come and find out how closely linked faith, spirituality, and emotions are especially this time of year.
