The Dunedin Senior Hall of Fame honors and celebrates older residents who have made significant contributions to the community. Each year the Committee On Aging inducts new members into the Senior Hall of Fame who must meet the following guidelines:

  • Be 75 years of age or older
  • Have at some time resided in Dunedin for ten years or more
  • Have demonstrated the art of aging successfully
  • Have donated time and abilities to activities serving the community
  • Both individual men and women nominees are welcomed, as are couples.


Nominations
 for the 2020 Senior Hall of Fame are currently being accepted through Thursday, March 26, 2020. Nominees will be selected in April. The Awards Banquet is held in May at the Hale Senior Activity Center, located at 330 Douglas Avenue, Dunedin.

Born into the legendary Black Family, Aoife Scott is steadily rising to the top of the traditional and folk music scene as a singer-songwriter.  Aoife’s single “All Along the Wild Atlantic Way” was named “Song of the Year” at the Irish Folk Music Awards in 2017. She was named Emerging Artist of the Year in 2018 and her most recent song “The December Letter” won Single of the Year at the ALSR Celtic Music Awards in 2019. Aoife and her cousins, Róisín O & Danny O Reilly from The Coronas, released their single “Grace,” which hit number 1 on iTunes Ireland in December. Her new album HomeBird was just released this January.

Shoot with the Stars is an annual event held at the Tampa Bay Sporting Clays’ state-of-the-art facility in Land O Lakes. Participants will enjoy breakfast followed by an all-inclusive morning of competitive clay shooting that will conclude with a catered lunch. All sponsorship and registration funds support the Sheriff’s Police Athletic League, which has given hope and opportunity to children in low-income areas of Pinellas County. Register here.

The survey will provide data to assess current habitat management strategies and guide future efforts related to this keystone species. Scottish American Society Traditional Robert Burns Night January 31

Join us January 31, 7:00 pm, at the Scottish American Society Hall, for a celebration of the life and work of Scotland’s National Bard, Robert Burns.

In our Traditional Burns Supper, the evening will consist of The Piping in of the Haggis, a great meal of beef and chicken, with rice, potatoes and seasonal vegetables. Accompanied by rolls and salad, and no Burns Supper would be complete without a c taste of the Chieftain of the Pudding Race, THE HAGGIS. And a dessert is also included.

Entertainment will be provided by local pipers, and highland dancers, and recitals of the works of Robert Burns will be presented by the members and guests of the Scottish American Society of Dunedin.

We will toast the Bard himself as well as the lassies and laddies.

Skerryvore in Concert! Skerryvore began as a Ceilidh band on the Hebridean island of Tiree, Scotland and has evolved into a unique fusion of folk, trad, rock and pop. Brothers Daniel (accordian) and Martin (pipes) Gillespie grew up on Tiree and added friends Fraser West (drums) and Alec Dalglish (guitar) to form a new band. The Dunedin Rotary Triathlon is held on Honeymoon Island, one of the most picturesque beaches in the United States.  The city of Dunedin and this lovely state park welcomes the athletes with open arms and embraces this triathlon event.  You will find beautiful beaches, a closed bike course to maximize speed, and a partially shaded, well-marked run course through the park where you’ll see a variety of plants and wildlife. This sprint triathlon course is made up of a 1/4 mile swim, 12-mile bike, and 5k run. Register early and take advantage of the discounted registration fee.

The mission of the United Faiths Walk of Peace is to promote peace, justice, and mutual respect by bringing the faith communities of a region together for fellowship, dialogue, and increased knowledge of each other’s faith beliefs.
