Starting February 16, 2020

A new gopher tortoise burrow survey will be conducted by Heinrich Ecological Services and volunteers in the park’s uplands. The survey will provide data to assess current habitat management strategies and guide future efforts related to this keystone species. Hammock Park Gopher Tortoise Survey Friend of the Hammock

We are having an informational meeting on October 15th at the Hale Center for the general public and prospective volunteers.

The information being presented will be about an important scientific study that the Friends of the Hammock is funding to help preserve the threatened gopher tortoises in Hammock Park.

We are looking for 80 volunteers to donate a minimum of 6 hours in the Hammock from Feb 15-29, 2020.

 

2019 Springtime in the Hammock – A Guided Nature Walk through the Park

Celebrate Spring and join us for a guided nature walk to explore the unique wonders and beautiful butterflies of Hammock Park with more than 90 acres of natural Florida.

Ice Cream will be provided after the walk by Friends of the Hammock.

Our nature guide experts include:
• Craig Wilson, Dunedin City Arborist
• Art Finn, Safety Harbor City Arborist
• Tim Adams, Butterfly Expert
with special guests: Jim Polgar, Butterfly Garden founder and Don Solari, Wildlife Photographer

The butterfly walk will be limited to 20 people and joining will be a first-come basis.
Please wear comfortable walking shoes and bring insect repellent. Water will be provided.

Springtime in The Hammock – Guided Nature Tours

Join Friends of the Hammock on Saturday March 11, 2017 9 AM to Noon for free guided nature walks in Hammock Park featuring the newly purchased eight acres.  Join naturalists Art Finn, City of  Safety Harbor Arborist,  Dr. Craig Huegel, Biology professor  St. Petersburg College and Craig Wilson , City of Dunedin Arborist and learn about this amazing 98 acre park in the heart of Dunedin.

Learn how the newly purchased land will help protect the plants, trees  and animals within the Hammock.  Water will be provided.  Free ice cream treats following the event. Tours will start from the main entrance picnic shelters,
