It’s Back… It’s LIVE!!!
Hanging out, drinking delicious coffee, talking about art… ahh, that’s the life! Well, that IS the life at least for an hour or so each month at the Dunedin Fine Art Center’s Coffee and Conversation series. Enjoy coffee (Presented by the Sterling Society of DFAC) and insights as each month’s guest hold forth on their area of expertise. Admission to these relaxed talks is $5 and is FREE to current DFAC members.
The series welcomes artist Bill Parker. The title of his presentation is: Why Plein Air Painting, Unique Experiences, and Challenges.
En plein air is a French expression meaning “in the open air” and refers to the act of painting outdoors with the artist’s subject in full view. Plein air artists capture the spirit and essence of a landscape or subject by incorporating natural light, color, and movement into their works.
Some of the topics he will be discussing will include:
- In the field…
- Is it about the landscape?
- Is it about the environment you’re in?
- Or is it about the structure you are seeing?
- My best plein air experience and my worse plein air experience.
- Taking advantage of your travel and outdoor landscapes.
- Understanding your tools of the trade.
- When to sketch, when to paint, and the difference between sketching outdoors and painting outdoors.
- Getting to the end result faster. Quicker is better. (looser, mark making, and tricks to get to your finished art).
- Science of observation sketching and painting.
- Simplification and final touches.
- Satisfaction of bringing home a finished piece of art.
